Ingredients 

Chicken and Broth

  • 1 whole chicken cut into pieces
  • 8 cups water
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon butter cold
  • ¾ cup milk

Instructions 

  1. Place chicken in a large pot with water, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove chicken and let cool. Shred the meat and set aside. Keep the broth simmering.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk to form a dough.
  4. Roll out dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Cut into strips or squares.
  5. Drop dumplings into the simmering broth. Cook for 10 minutes, then add shredded chicken back to the pot. Cook for another 10 minutes.
  6. Serve hot and enjoy!
